Valentine Chitalu – Group & Investment Committee Chairperson

Valentine, a qualified accountant, started his career at KPMG in the United Kingdom (UK) before relocating to Zambia to join Meridien Financial Services. As Chief Executive Officer at Zambia Privatisation Agency, he led the privatisation of about 240 companies. In the late 90s, he joined Commonwealth Development Corporation/Actis (London and Lusaka) responsible for cross-border deal origination throughout Africa and investment portfolio management in Zambia and Malawi. Valentine still holds several board positions in Angola, Zambia, Australia, South Africa and the UK.

Stuart’s private equity career began in 1996 with CDC Group plc and thereafter with Aureos Capital and Phatisa Group, of which he is a founder and Managing Partner. Stuart has successfully raised over US$ 1 billion for private equity funds in Africa. Previously, he was Managing Partner of Aureos Southern Africa and General Manager of Takura Ventures in Zimbabwe. Stuart has served on the board of SAVCA and was a member of the EMPEA Frontier Markets Council.

Martin had a career of 19 years in multinational FMCG businesses, before joining Phatisa in 2017. He previously worked at Diageo, where he held the positions of Supply Chain Director – Southern Africa, and Finance and IT Director – Brandhouse Beverages (a Diageo joint venture with Heineken and Namibia Breweries). Prior to 2011, Martin spent 14 years with Procter & Gamble where he gained experience in several commercially focused financial roles in Europe and Africa, which included Finance Director for the P&G South and East African businesses.

Eugene is a seasoned private equity and investment professional with deep operational experience. He was a senior partner at Ethos Private Equity in Johannesburg, South Africa. Eugene was instrumental in the formation of Ethos and the introduction of black economic empowerment to the business. In all, he spent many years in executive, board and investment committee capacities at Ethos. Eugene has a successful track record over the whole private equity value chain. He has also fulfilled roles as an executive in and has consulted to companies on strategic and operational issues in Australia before joining Phatisa.
